popup scam

After visiting a site on Pinterest. I get this popup scam about a virus on my computer. Of course I don't click on it. How to get rid of it? I looked at directions for doing something with activity monitor, but that is way beyond my understanding. Would appreciate any help.

Was it a pop-up notification in the upper right-hand corner of the screen? Might be a Web site notification. See:
