macOS 12.7.1 is it possible to sign in with my apple ID that is running ios17.2? Do I need to creat a new apple ID just to be able to download apps on this iMac?

Just trying to figure out a way to be able to more fully use this iMac. I started to set up a new ID but when I enter my number it says unable to continue (guessing because it is attached to my other id. I did try a google voice number with no luck either (it was new, so maybe that was the issue). All 4 family phones have a Apple ID already.

My iPhone is running 16.6.1. Big Sur is still happy.

There is a problem if you are using Advanced Data Protection with an Apple ID. See How to turn on Advanced Data Protection for iCloud - Apple Support. That document includes instructions on how to turn off this feature.

The idea is that you will use the same Apple ID on all of your Apple devices. It will automatically sync settings, apps, purchases, other information, etc. according to how you have it configured.

as far as I can tell if one of your devices are running 16.1 or later you cannot log into older IOS's.
