My Book Duo back up
I have a WD My Book Duo. When my iMac backs up are the files on the My Book Duo part of that back up?

Assuming it is formatted to work with your Mac and you have not excluded it from being backed up, yes it should be backing up. The way to tell, is to open Time Machine and restore a file located on the External Hard Disk.
