Outlook preview not showing on iPhone lock screen -- solution

Outlook was displaying a message on the banner notifications: "Outlook Message, Click notification to read" or something along those lines and not showing a preview. to fix I made sure the settings were as follows:

settings>notifications>outlook>show previews>always

then performed a hard reset on the phone and it now works. I did not find this solution anywhere so I figured I would post it.
