Defect Playlist Artwork (as of 17.1.1)

  1. When creating a playlist on Music, the album artwork is always the first 4 albums in the playlist.
  2. As of the last update (17.1.1), when creating albums, all playlists choose a random atrocious vector artwork created in the 1980's
  3. On Mac OS Sonoma on Music, it creates playlists normally
  4. How can I get it to function properly again?

What a horrid design change. Report sent.

Meanwhile, my workaround:

  1. Open multialbum playlist.
  2. Select File>Print
  3. From the Theme list, select White mosaic.
  4. Select Print.
  5. In the Print dialog box, at the bottom, select PDF and save as a PDF.
  6. On your Mac, open the PDF in Preview.
  7. Select File>Export... and choose an image format.
  8. Open that new image version of the PDF, crop it to just the albums, and save the file.
  9. Back over in Music, in the target playlist, right-click (Ctrl-click) the playlist image.
  10. Scroll to the left and select the left-most icon (with the + sign).
  11. Navigate to your new image file and choose it.

After 11 steps, you'll have a mosaic.

Scheiße!

I'm having the same issue as Psilocybe. I have several playlists, all with the collage of first 4 album covers as the artwork. However, I created a new playlist today (my first since the 17.1.1 update) and the only options are those random images. As someone who greatly values the art on album covers, I have already left feedback for Apple with my request to at least have the option to have the collage.

I'm using an iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Attached: 1. Image of new "Christmas Carols and Hymns" playlist with the new cover options; and 2. old "Arias, Opera, & Voice" playlist with the old cover art collage.

Thank you for posting this. Apparently it's not affecting a lot of people because I don't find this as an issue if I search Google or DuckDuckGo. Hopefully Apple will fix something that they broke in the last update. It doesn't affect existing playlists. It seems to be playlists I create on my iPhone and iPad. Haven't tried it on my computer yet. I've already given product feedback several times on this issue. Hopefully they will fix it.
