lost desktop files after Sonoma update

I'm afraid to download Sonoma now. My desktop has many folders on it, and I want them to stay there. Will the setting changes reveal them? This is awful. Apple is supposed to be this great experience, and they do this? Must be too much hippie grass goin' around. And then I would have to go into three different settings to remove the annoying giant clock from the middle of my desktop? And what about this "click wallpaper to reveal desktop" setting? -- I just want to turn my computer on, and have it look just the way it does now in Ventura. Is it possible to do that after switching to Sonoma? Wow.

I tried this. I turned stage manager off. I still can't find my old desktop. I don't remember names of files. I need to see my desktop. I do not have time to learn a new program that is designed to help me but instead is creating more work at the most inconvenient time. what else can I do?

I figured out where my desktop went! Changing the settings in iCloud backup was my reason. Sonoma automatically had moreiCloud settings turned on then I previously had. Turning Desktop & Documents Folders on/off will delete or add to your desktop, and send them to the iCloud. I found them on iCloud.com.

I as well lost all desktop files with the sonoma update. Not found anywhere on my Mac. Help

I have had hourly crashing with Sonoma today, it was installed 2 weeks ago. This last crash, all my files on the desktop disappeared. Not in the trash, not in the desktop folder for user.

Click the 'finder' with the blue and white halves face, then click the 'house' icon displaying the name of your computer. Find the folder with the 'iCloud Drive, it may say (Archive) - 2.' In that file are additional files (Desktop, Documents, Downloads...). Click on the 'blue file' that says desktop. Your mission desktop display items will be located therein. The file marked documents has your documents and the Downloads file has your download item...etcetera.

This also fixed the weird issue of my mouse not being able to right-click and bring up the context menu on my desktop, even though it has nothing to do with showing items.

Just to update, I found my desktop on iCloud online.

Plus, computer seems to run better now with the huge Sonoma animated screen saver and wallpaper crap turned off.
