Gray Translucent Frame Around Border of Home Screen

After installing Sonoma, my home screen has some kind of glitch. When i click in the open area, a gray frame appears around the display. It appears to have no functionality or purpose. Is this a new feature or is this a bug? I've been a Mac user for many years and have never seen this feature before. Frustrating.

You can disable it if you don't use Stage Manager in System Settings > Desktop & Dock. Change "Click wallpaper to reveal desktop" to "Only in Stage Manager".

It's a feature.

FWIW, the feature has been available since at least macOS Big Sur. "Show Desktop" is used to easily clear all apps from the Desktop so you can get to files that may be covered without having to hide or move windows/apps out of the way manually. Before Sonoma you had to invoke it using "fn F11" or set it as a Hot Corner. Now you can just click on the Desktop to enable or disable it. Or, perhaps Apple added the feature so some would have something to complain about.

Glad to hear it can be turned off. Thanks for that. I still can't help but wonder, "Who thought this was a good idea?" or, at the very least, why was this put in as a default? It makes me want to never upgrade the OS, since every time I do, I lose valuable productivity time trying to get rid of extraneous BS that keeps being added.
