How do I connect my elder Mac Mini to my Macbook Pro for storage/backup purpose? The MM is bought in 201

I have an elder Mac Mini (Dual-Core i5 2.6 GHz) that I want to use for extra storage or backup. How, if, can I do that? Do I connect it directly to my Macbook Pro or better to my network (router)? Thank you.

Does the Mac Mini have an internet connection through your router? If so, then its already connected to it, and you can share folders across the network.

When done correctly, you should see the Mac Mini in the Network section of the Finder's side bar.

Alternatively you can set it up for Target Disk mode and connect it directly via cable to the Macbook Pro.
