apple tv 4k - won't control sound

Hi. I have an atv 4k a2843 connected to a Panasonic android tv but I can’t control volume on atv. I’ve tried changing the volume settings in atv, but no joy.

is it only a specific hdmi port on tv that can be used?

what settings in the tv do I need to change? There’s not much to change in the tv settings

from tv it goes to a dac via an optical cable.

Sorted 🫣. I changed to cec setting on tv.

Not quite sorted. It only controls volume from tv speakers. Tv is set to external soundsystem and sound is coming out correctly, I just can’t control the volume outputted through the optical. I assume using optical is the issue, but I’m pretty sure there’s no other output options on tv. Apple tv is connected now to arc port hdmi 2.
