why is the contacts app crash on my iphone 15 each time I look a contact up?!

I have found out that my issue was happening due to a duplicate contact I had, which included that letter. When I search and find those duplicates, it crashes. The problem was not that they were just duplicates. One of them was created by some Siri suggestion or something. It was broken and I couldn’t interact with it much. I deleted it and the crashing stopped.

After updating to iOS 17.2.1 the problem was gone!!!

SOLVED

Go to settings -> Siri & Search -> contacts -> turn off "Show contacts Suggestions"

Agreed; apple store appt. came back with recommendation to factory rest the phone. Glad we looked at this thread; it worked after turning off Siri contacts suggestions. Hopefully this issue is resolved in future updates. Thanks to everyone who posted this issue's workaround.

After update 17.4. it was fixed.

Issue resolved with turning off the contacts sync and deleting the contacts from device ,restarting iphone and turning them back on

I had the same issue. Went through contacts and deleted duplicates and other contacts added by siri that i didnt need. Fixed after that. Find the contact thats crashing it and get rid of it and the problem gets fixed.

I also have the same issue, happening when I type letters A or P only. Fine with all other letters. Any solution yet. I got on a call with the customer support, they tried the usual force restarting the phone and uninstall+reinstall contacts app but all in vain. Thereafter they said this has been escalated to their senior team and they will get in touch with me to resolve this.

No one has contacted me yet. Not a good experience.

would be good to know if this issue is widespread or maybe down to a small batch of 15’s I am using the pro max?

It happens for me as well. Interesting enough, it happens only if I start searching the letter “v” 🤔

I have the same issue with letter „s“ only.

Glad, you good on this one! Mine is still crashes while searching with letter 'S' --- annoying?? When will this be fixed?

Here in the netherlands same with the H and S, i’m on ios 17.3 on an iphone 15pro

on my old iphone 13 there where no problems
