As MacBook Pros have been in continuous product since 2O06, having more information from you up front will make it easier for your fellow users to help in this setting where we can neither see or touch your Mac:

  • What Macbook Pro sub-model? (the part with a year from "About this Mac..." under your Apple menu
  • What macOS version is the computer running (also from "About this Mac...")
  • Does the floppy show up on your desktop or Finder window?
  • Do other disks show up when placed in the external drive?
  • Do you know what format the Seattle Film files are in? They may not be Mac-compatible.
  • Have you contacted SFW support for information?

As you see we are fling blind here without details.

PS: I saw "SFW" and thought that meant "safe for work" files! 😱

PS #2: Example of an "About this Mac..." window from macOS 11 "Big Sur":

Seattle Film works processed film for REI stores in the 1980s. They used an early proprietary version of JPG that they called SFW that they placed on a CD along with a proprietary program to allow you to view the pictures. What we need is to know what current software will open these files and hopefully convert them to standard JPG files. I have found some applications like Elmedia player, but does it work. Is there a better one that works?
