Opera is not installing in Sonoma

I've downloaded the Installer app directly from the Opera site several times, and each time it comes back and says it can't install Opera.

Currently running macOS Sonoma 14.1 on an M1.

Just the plain Opera browser. Not a gaming device or mobile app. I use ExpressZip for extracting zip / gz / rar files. Shouldn't make a difference I would think. But I will try a different one.

OK tried RAR Unarchiver. Interesting result. It extracted to a directory 'OperaSetup' which contains a directory 'Contents'. It seems to be the Contents when you open a .app

Contents

_CodeSignature

CodeResources

Info.plist

MacOS

PkgInfo

Resources

Will give your suggestion a shot.

Well this seems to be working! Opera is now installed on the M1. Many thanks to all who went down this rabbit hole.
