Apparently the problem is incompatibility from the version of MacOS and Safari. I have Catalina 10.15.7 and Safari 15.6.1 (Old MacBook Pro 2012). If you download one of those images an try to open it in the Operating System with preview, It will fail to load too. However if you drag that file to another browser like Firefox, it opens without issues; because Firefox don't rely in Operating System libraries to handle the files. The file will identify itself like RIFF WEBPVP8X, which is a new file format to use in the web. Those sites who adopted this kind of files, will fail to load. As Catalina and Safari 10.15 are no longer supported by Apple, the only solution is to use another web browser like Firefox. I don't know if Chrome will work though. It's a shame because Safari is so light in compare, which is good for older computers.
