Only you can answer that.

What do you want the iPad for exactly?

Does the iPhone do everything you want?

Do you feel the iPad would let you do something you cannot do with the iPhone?

What reason do you have to even consider the iPad?

Why that particular model?

Why not say an iPad Air or an iPad Pro?

It may be worth it to someone who wants use it with an Apple Pencil and paint or draw on it. May not be worth it, if you only occasionally check your email or use social media for instance. But only know what use you would have for it and whether you want to pay for it.

iPads and iPhones have many similarities.

Differences that might make you choose one device, or the other:

  • iPads have much larger screens
  • iPads are much less portable
  • iPads cannot act as cell phones. (Cellular iPads can access cellular data plans, but cannot place/receive cellular phone calls or send/receive SMS/MMS messages.)
  • Some high-end iPad Pros have computing power roughly equivalent to that of low-end MacBook Airs – although there isn't, as of yet, any way to run macOS on iPad hardware.

iPad and iPhone differ in many ways - and have their own strengths and weaknesses. If you would benefit from using a much larger screen - with much more capable Apps - then yes you may see many benefits.

Only you dan decide if an iPad would be useful to you. Perhaps consider that if purchased directly from Apple, you have up to 14-days within which to decide if an iPad is for you. Within 14-days, Apple offer an unconditional opportunity to return an undamaged device for exchange or full refund. As such, you can try-out an iPad without risk.
