Anyway to get past v. 10.13.6 on Late 2011 MacBook Pro?

I’ve got a 17-inch late 2011 MacBook Pro running on High Sierra 10.13.6.

I’m running into issues with updating a non Apple browser because the minimum requirement is macOS 10.15 or later.

It’s not that easy finding answers despite searching different ways. I’ve found articles saying there’s no way to get past what I have but then results for downloads to be emailed for 2010 or 2012 models, but not 2011. To be honest I’m not of the level to discern if downloading one of those is right.

What options do I have and should I have downloaded anything else on my system with it being this old? I’ve done nothing to it.

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 11.7

The software update you linked to is irrelevant for your MBP. Anything similar would probably also be irrelevant.

10.13.6 is the highest you can go on the 2011 MBP you have. There is no way to get beyond that short of some risky hacks.

Regarding your web browser, very few still support High Sierra or earlier versions of macOS. Firefox still supports High Sierra but only in ESR status (extended support release). The current Firefox ESR version will continue to get security updates through October 2024. Here is a link to get Firefox ESR -> https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/#product-desktop-esr

You should consider replacing your MBP with a new model.

The update in the link you posted is an update only for OS X 10.6.3; click on the System Requirements in that link. It won't work on your 10.13.6 and would take you backwards if it did.

Again, A late 2011 MacBook Pro can be upgraded to High Sierra 10.13.6 but no later version. See the following from Identify your MacBook Pro model - Apple Support

MacBook Pro (17-inch, Late 2011)

Model Identifier: MacBookPro8,3

Part Number: MD311xx/A

Newest compatible operating system: macOS High Sierra
