I'm still waiting to hear as well when iTunes for Windows will be fully retired. There are only 2 apps to go, and only one that I care about - Podcasts. I'm hoping that there will be an announcement at WWDC in 1 1/2 weeks announcing a preview, but I doubt it.
My story is that I did switch briefly to the new Apple Music, TV, and Devices apps but ran into a few things that made me uninstall:
- Ripping CDs is a mess. It treats the music as an Audiobook so you have to rip it, remove it out of the Audiobook section and re-add to the Music app.
- I have used the iTunes remote app for years, and it stops working.
Problem (1) has gone away as I finally went through my late father-in-law's CD collection and generally have nothing else left to rip. I'm coming to the conclusion that (2) is probably not that important since I can just log in with a remote PC app to control things. A few more steps, but it is not that big of a deal especially if my last played information actually stays better in sync. Also, the iTunes remote app has never worked on my iPhone 14 Pro but still would work on an iPad Air, and my Apple Watches.
I'm probably going to wait until after WWDC and then go ahead and reinstall the Apple Music, TV, and Devices app at that time and still use iTunes for Podcast. I don't understand why it has taken Apple so long to replace those two last apps, and then they can get rid of iTunes for Windows.
