Placing app in a subgroup Launchpad

Good morning, could you please suggest how to manage to place an app within a subgroup inside the Launchpad, when the icon for the subgroup is located at the edge of the screen?

I initially thought this was a MacOS bug, but since it has remained unresolved for years, I assume it's designed that way. I took a video-screenshot, available here.

Thanks a lot!

While you're in Launchpad.....

  1. Click and hold an app’s icon until it starts wiggling.
  2. Drag the app on top of another app you wish to put into the same folder until a white box appears around both apps.
  3. Let go of the icon.
  4. Repeat for other icons you wish to place in the same group.

If it's not working correctly try this command within Terminal:

defaults write com.apple.dock ResetLaunchPad -bool true; killall Dock

You could perhaps temporarily move that to a different position, where it is easier to add the item, then move it back.

That said, I have to say that I never ever ever use Launchpad on the Mac. Why launch an application just to launch an application? And adding folders adds even more steps.

You can do it all from the keyboard... command-space, type two or three letters, like Sa, press enter, and there you have Safari running... or Ma for Mail, etc. My hands never leave the keyboard 😎
