Mac IIci discette problem

Three methods to try (in this case from an Apple user's guide for the Performa 500 series):

• Hold down the Command and Shift keys and press the number 1 key on your

keyboard to eject a disk in the internal disk drive.

• Turn off the computer. If the disk isn’t ejected, then hold down the button

on your mouse or other pointing device while you turn the computer on

again.

• Locate the small hole near the disk drive’s opening, and carefully insert the

end of a large straightened paper clip into it. Push gently until the disk is

ejected. Do not use excessive force.

Remember to turn the computer off before using the paper clip method. You may have to push just a bit further (still without excessive force). The problem as such could be related to bad internal floppy drive lubrication. I have also noticed that some floppy makes/types may eject more easily than others.

With the manual method, use the largest possible paper clip (with a wire size just smaller than the hole). A relatively firm push may be required.

If nothing works, it may be necessary to remove and open the floppy drive to gain access to the floppy disk (and for service/lubrication). In order to avoid damage to the drive, this is work for someone with the necessary expertise only. A web search for something like how to disassemble an old mac floppy drive might give you an idea of what is needed.
