Updated to 17.1.1 and can’t send group messages with non-IPhone users

I updated my IPhone 13 Pro Max to 17.1.1 two nights ago. Since then, I can not send or receive messages to group chats with non-IPhone users. This is not an issue when the group chat is all iPhone users.

has this happened to anyone else? What can I do? I’ve tried restarting several times, but no luck. Very frustrating to not be able to communicate properly!

iPhone 7 Plus, iOS 14

I had the same issue and was able to resolve it by resetting my network settings on my phone. Instructions are below:

Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset [Device] > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

This also resets cellular settings, Wi-Fi networks and passwords, and VPN and APN settings that you've used before.

After the reset was complete it took roughly 10-15 minutes to send group texts to non-Iphone users and receive large attachments like pictures.

Hope this helps!

PS: This is NOT a carrier problem.

Report your frustration to your phone carrier, MMS is their feature not Apples.

The carrier in my case (Verizon) has done everything possible, including:

1) removing / adding back MMS messaging

2) restarting my network settings on their backend

3) toggle off/on all MMS, iMessage, and SMS options within Settings>Messages.

receiving MMS is not a problem. It’s when sending an MMS to an individual or to a group. The common theme across this issue is iOS 17 or later.

this IS an Apple issue.
