Why the Error?
There is an error connecting to Apple's Update Server.
Updating an iPhone 12 to iOS 16.2:
A. You Can't: Your iPhone will only install the most-recent compatible update releases for your iPhone: Only the Latest-Compatible iOS version will install: iOS 17.1.1 (as of this reply).
So, what to Try:
B. Update Using a Computer:
Have a Computer Handy? If so, try using a computer to update. Use MY User Tip: Update your iPhone Using a Computer - User Tip. If any updates are availabe, they will install, sure enough.
