Apple Vision Pro is now available in the U.S.

I have 498 .mpg files in Photos that will no longer play.

When I try to play them I get sound but no video. Quicktime will not play them either.

I have just checked my old Mac running Big Sur and they play fine.

So can someone please explain to me why has Apple withdrawn the support of these old videos?

I cannot convert them as Apple suggest as Quick time wont play them.

I have tried other video conversion software but I lose the creation date and this would mean I would have to manually edit each file after conversion.

Running Sonoma 14.1.1 Photos 9.0

That is the solution, I'm afraid. That's how yu get to see these videos again.

Perhaps not. Check out an app like A Better Finder Rename

which, among many other options, offers the ability to append the date and time to the file name. I would recommend this anyway as frankly, file creation dates are hardly permanent metadata, and can be lost moving files from machine to machine or even exporting them.
