Wondering if you have downloaded, un-synced, or deleted everything above the free 5Gb amount.

If the storage amount is still showing you are using over 5Gb ...

cancelling could delete the synced files from your iPhone as well, which could cause you problems.

ie: Deleting from iCloud, deletes everything that is in sync on computers, devices etc..

... you may need to turn of sync of apps / make sure you don't lose any information you want to keep.

Seems with iCloud you can just ensure your storage is under 5Gb and "downgrade" to the free 5Gb.

So, what's the subscription? If you cannot proceed with this, you may need to add a Method of Payment.
