FindMy does NOT work with the iOS 17 update

My iPad is on iOS 16 and its FindMy app gives me a last seen location of my stolen iPhone 15 Pro Max with updates every hour or so. But on the iCloud website and on my other phone (iOS 17) it shows no location found and says it is offline.

An Apple advisor said the iOS 16 is giving me false location and that the no location found is the correct information. However, I do not get how that is the case since my iPad with iOS 16 still gives me the correct location for every other device and items. So it gives me all the correct locations and information for every other device but the one? (There are 8 devices, according to the advisor that one device is incorrect but the other 7 devices are correct, what?)

Am I missing a point? Neither any iOS 16 or iOS 17 updates were to fix a false location bugs, so why does it matter that I update it? I do not wish to update because I do not wish to lose the only location access I have to my stolen phone.

*Also, John, the advisor said that he is the most senior advisor and I can not get any other help that is more senior to him. I am not sure how to accept this quality from Apple.

Yes, I have my old iPhone but my iPad is the only one that’s showing the location. Actually, today I had a call and received an apology about the FindMy convo I had that inspired me to write this thread. Apparently lovely John the Apple advisor was in fact incompetent and that iPad was giving me the correct location. The advisor today was very nice and apologised although, he didnt need to as it was not him who was adamantly wrong.

So what today’s advisor told me:

iCloud detected my iPad was the main app that I am using to track this stolen iPhone on and it keeps updating the location only on iPad and not on any other places due to my tracking habits.

Regardless, he said the iPad is giving an accurate location and calling it a definite false location would be wrong.

I'm very sorry for your iPhone, I know what it means because happened to me too sometime ago.

If your iPhone 15 pro max is offline your iPad will have logged the last location sent from the iPhone before going offline and then also shows the location of all your other devices.

The iCloud website is showing no location because it has moved on from the last location to practically no more locations sent

Thank you, it is very upsetting as I got it on Wednesday and was stolen on Saturday. Sorry you can relate to it.

The location on the iPad keeps updating, it does give me a live location if I catch the minute as it updates. Do you think the location shown on iPad is reliable or is the iPad is giving false locations for some reason? Was it reliable in your case?

Yes, I marked it as lost. Also changed my iCloud password and had my mobile network provider to block to phone. So the phone is no longer usable with a different SIM/eSIM. FindMy is enabled but it is not working properly so sadly out of luck. I am pretty sure there is a software issue as the phone was already overheating and lagging. I just didn’t get to time to take it to an Apple store before it was stolen.

I was so close to erasing the iPhone, sorry about your iPhone

Also, it took me several tries to post this reply. The website kept saying “I am logged out and need to try again” when I was logged in and kept logging in. There is some sort of a software issue from my end. Same thing happened to my AirPods Pro on FindMy where after months of communicating Apple accepted that there is a software issue by an Apple Engineer. So idk anything at this point 🤷‍♀️
