IOS 17.1.1 - no longer able to edit text messages
I used to be able to edit text messages. I just downloaded version 17.1.1 and that feature is no longer there. How do I edit text messages with IOS 17.1.1?
iPhone 5, iOS 10
Apple Vision Pro is now available in the U.S.

Yes! Why in the world can’t Apple ever get these updates right!! This was an extremely important feature… If you can’t edit your text before you send it how in the world are you supposed to even write a text. For everything they think they repair in each update, they get about 10 things wrong! Absolutely
This has rendered texting useless!

Well, thinking positively, we all know the “Apple Police” closely monitor everything posted on these boards …… so we have to assume they put a similar level of effort into forwarding genuine software issues (like this one) to the software developers to get it fixed.
Insulting the Hosts, who have an overwhelming job here, is not very polite. All they have time to do is make sure people aren't violating the terms of use.
If you want Apple to know your thoughts, use the feedback link:
What were they thinking? I used to love Apple products, but not being able to edit a long scrolling text, has made me more open to research android phones. Any android phone suggestions?
You can still edit a recently-sent message up to 5 times within 15 minutes of sending it. From the Messages app on your iPhone, select a conversation with the message you want to edit. Touch and hold the message bubble, then tap Edit.

I totally agree - this is such basic stuff that unless addressed will probably lead many users to consider a non-apple smart phone for the first time, when selecting their next upgrade.

Why? Because Apple is awful. Can’t leave well enough alone. Always have to make things more complicated, add a far-from-pragmatic bell or whistle at the expense of something that people actually use. Always “innovating,” but really just complicating.

6. Would it not be in Apple’s own interests to embrace the feedback on this board as a way to help them improve their product relative to their competitors, or am I missing the point?
Yes, you are missing the point of these forums. This is a user-to-user support forum. Apple's participation here is limited to making sure that people obey the terms of use to which they agreed (not some sort of censorship).
If you want Apple to know your thoughts, they have provided a feedback portal just for that purpose:

I just wanted to add my voice to the complaints below. To not be able to edit texts is overwhelming for a writer, which I am. I thought I was doing something wrong till I just looked at all the complaints below. What good is an iPhone feature if you can't edit what you write???

Meanwhile, I would recommend some other app than Messages for writing your novel, short story or article. You'll probably find that less stressful.

I agree this is awful. Apple, fix it and fix it fast.
Apple doesn't read here in this user-to-user forum for feedback or suggestions. You can, however, let them know your thoughts here:
How did you resolve text edit? No suggestion so far has worked on my brand new 15 pro - it’s absolutely useless.
I’m running 17.1.2 latest iOS
Me too Text is useless. Might as well kick the phone to the kerb it’s so useless now.
APPLE WHERE ARE YOU
Yep, using notes is the only solution I’ve come up with as well. Unbelievably frustrating and such an inconvenient process.
texting just went from efficient to inefficient overnight. Recently every update seems to take 10 steps backwards. I’m disappointed in the changes being made.
Even after positioning the cursor with this method, it snaps back to a location much later in the message and scrolls down - hiding the area I want to edit. It’s broken.
Do 17.2.1 SW update
I updated to 17.2.1 and the texting works perfectly now; I can edit my texts no matter how long they are.
