Recovering emptied file
I accidentally deleted and emptied "Photos Library.photoslibrary" file from the Trash bin. Now, I have lost all the photos. Anyway of recovering the file?
MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 12.6

You could try using Prosoft Data Rescue. You can have it scan your drive for potentially recoverable files for free. To actually recover files you must pay for the app ($79).
But I will say in advance that if your drive is an SSD the likelihood of recovery is slim.
The potential problem is that once the space occupied by a file is freed up by emptying Trash, any system or application can use that free space.
In general terms, when you move a file to the Trash & empty the Trash, all that basically happens is the pointers to the file's data are erased; the actual file data remains intact on the drive. That's why the file is potentially recoverable. However once the pointers are erased, the system sees the location of the file data as being free & available for other uses. At that point anything that writes to the disk may write to the same location(s) as the previously removed file. The more you use your system after erasing a file, the less & less likely recovery becomes.
Sounds like a splendid time to recover that item from your last hour's Time Machine backup via /Applications/Time Machine.app.
Why isn't that TM drive directly connected to your Mac where it would get backed up every hour your Mac is powered on? That is how all of my TM drives are configured on each of my Macs.
thanks I will try it. The file is 88Gb. Am I right to guess that the larger the file, the harder to recover?
I wish. The problem is that there is a conflict between the TM and the router from my telco. So, my TM is part of the clutter in THAT cabinet in the corner. Sigh.
Thanks for reminding. Maybe that is what I should be doing as it will be tons easier than using the harddisk as I do now.
