Updating iMac MacOS 10.12.6 (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Mid 2015)

I have recently been trying to update iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Mid 2015) Is it true that this software is unable to be updated? The computer is only 8 years old and cannot update it.

By default, the App Store hides old versions of macOS. So you need to go through links in a Support article. Have Safari set as your default browser, and use Safari, when doing this. (If you use other Web browsers you might get misleading errors, suggesting, e.g., that the OS upgrade is "not available in the U.S. Store.")

Note that if you update to Catalina or later (including Monterey),
