Apple pencil 2 compatability

I have been a loyal Apple fan for many years with lots of purchases to Apple.

In the past several months, my family again purchased two iphones, one ipad 10th and one apple pencil 2. However, the last two items may have changed my view on Apple, the brand and the company forever. Before buying the Apple Pencil 2, it never came across my mind that there is a compatibility issue with Apple's own products until I opened the box and tried to connect them. After calling the after service line, I just found that Apple declines all returns except those with proven defects. In the age of "xx days for return without any reasons" across the globe and among tons of companies, I have to admit that I am really surprised by my findings today.

My personal opinion probably will have no impact on Apple at all; however, I view this as an effort to urge the company to evolve with the world and keep its leading position in the industry, before I, as well as other loyal fans, switch to another company.

The iPad10 is compatible with both the first generation Apple Pencil and the new USB-C Pencil - but not the second generation Apple Pencil.

Here is Apple’s definitive compatibility list for Apple Pencil and iPad:

The first and second generation Pencil use an entirely different pairing and charging interface.

The second generation Pencil can only be used with iPad models that have the magnetic/inductive dock that is exclusively designed for the Pencil. Charging is controlled via the iPad magnetic dock.

The first generation Apple Pencil uses the physical Lightning port of the Pencil and host iPad for both pairing and charging the first generation Pencil. The first generation Pencil can also be charged using an inline charging adapter and the iPad’s Power Adapter. This pencil can only be used with compatible iPad models that have a Lightning connector; with the sole exception of the new iPad10, requiring a special adapter, iPad models that feature a USB-C port lack any means by which to pair with a first generation Pencil.

All iPad's with a USB-C port support the new USB-C Pencil in addition to the full-featured second generation Pencil.

In summary, like all accessories, Apple Pencils can only be used with the iPad that has appropriate internal hardware; Apple Pencil models are not necessarily interchangeable.

In most countries/regions, if your Pencil was purchased directly from Apple, you have 14-days within which you can return an Apple device for exchange or refund. If purchased from other retailers, you are at the mercy of their own returns policy.
