My experience says this is purely caused by some third-party app that you may have installed.

Store the device where the temperature is between -20º and 45º C (-4º to 113º F). Don’t leave the device in your car, because temperatures in parked cars can exceed this range.

Use iOS devices where the ambient temperature is between 0º and 35º C (32º to 95º F). Low- or high-temperature conditions might cause the device to change its behavior to regulate its temperature. Using an iOS device in very cold conditions outside of its operating range might temporarily shorten battery life and could cause the device to turn off. Battery life will return to normal when you bring the device back to higher ambient temperatures. Using an iOS device in very hot conditions can permanently shorten battery life.

What's the one app?

Some apps are poorly written and use inordinate amounts of CPU, causing the very issues you cite.

Just because it's one app also doesn't mean it hasn't spun off multiple intense tasks to multiple CPU cores, causing heating to occur because it's using a lot of power.

Getting warm is normal, especially if running multiple apps.

Unless your phone shuts itself down, it is not overheating.

It literally get hot enough to where the phone becomes jittery, stops responding for a second or two, takes an unusual amount of time to perform a function. It’s solely ios 17.1.1. I am not doing anything different and ambient temps are colder now than when the phone was perfect before the update. I close everything everytime and it does this while only running one app.

It can be any app. I close everything when I am done with it. Some people leave multiple. Apps open in background but I do not. News, music, maps, safari. News apps heat and stutter the worst. FB and Insta also cause problems. Since I updated everything causes heat beyond normal and will developed stutter issues.

FB and IG have always been huge performance hogs.

I use both daily and have no heating issues.
