I accepted a free one week subscription but when I went on to the site I realised I could not work out how to use it. It worried me also that some of the language was in Chinese I think.

What "help site"? You mean the app's website or do you mean the Apple Support document I posted above?
If you went to the App's own website, and it did not work, you will need to contact the App developer directly for that.
If you went to the support document I posted above, and then clicked on the blue "Cancel Subscription" button, and it got stuck, try following the steps below the button instead. You may need to force close the Settings App though.

Thank you for your reply. I did go on to the help site and clicked on to 'cancel app' it then sent me to a blank page with a circle whirring round. I left it for more than half an hour but nothing else happened. I left it for a while and went through the same process with the same result.
