iPhone freezing making and/or receiving calls

Has Apple fixed the issue making iPhones virtually unusable - screen goes black & the phone freezes when making calls, but often also when receiving calls. This can be with every call but then may work normally for a while. The only way to disconnect from calls is a forced hard restart. I have an iPhone 13 Pro - software updated to iOS 17.1.1 - issue been happening since (I think) an iOS 16 update.
