Update to Logic Pro makes my projects with Melodyne ARA in them unopenable - how to fix?
Hi, I have a complex issue and I’m hoping somebody can provide some insight for me. This is regarding the recent update to Logic Pro 10.8 and it’s compatibility with the third party plugin Melodyne.
When I try to open a project with Logic, it crashes when opening a project that has Melodyne ARA plugins enabled when it is in Rosetta mode. However, when Rosetta mode is disabled on Logic Pro, all my Melodyne ARA edits are missing on multiple projects. After many emails with Celemony, it turns out that Melodyne ARA is not compatible with silicon-based machines and therefore Logic needs to be run in Rosetta mode for the plugin to work.
Through troubleshooting with Celemony support, it turns out that creating a new project in Logic, adding Melodyne ARA to an audio track’s plugin strip, saving it, and reopening it in Rosetta works perfectly fine. Therefore, it seems that only files created prior to the most recent Logic update, that include Melodyne ARA in any given plugin strip, crash when I try to open them.
I have already disabled Celemony’s plugins (and other third party plugins) in Logic’s plugin manager, and the files still crash when I try to open them. I have also tried re-validating the plugins. I’ve also deleted both com.apple.logic.pro.cs and logic10 files from the preferences folder. Opening Logic in safe mode does not work either. So, it seems that all the files that are corrupted are either corrupted from Logic's latest update or a combination of that and Melodyne.
One way I’ve found of circumventing the crash is to go into the Logic folder, right click on the project, select “Show package” contents, and navigate to Alternatives -> 000 > ARA Files -> And then deleting these files. Opening the file in Rosetta mode then works, but again, none of my Melodyne edits are there. Furthermore, copying and replacing the “ARA Files” Folder with one of the backups located in “Project File Backups” does not work. Upon opening, Logic asks which backup I would like to revert to (of which all backups have Melodyne ARA on them), and then crashes.
Is this a known issue or is there a work around in the meantime? I’d really like to work on some unfinished projects - and if not possible, is it possible to downgrade my version of Logic Pro? I have already exhausted all possible solutions with the company who makes this plugin.
