Changing Function of Return Key

Hi all, how can I change the function of the return key on my Macbook? I would like it to open a document or a file when I hit it after the file was selected. Right now, when I hit return it allows me to rename a document instead of opening it. I used to have that function when I used Windows and I'm new to Mac. Thanks for your help!

The default key combo for opening a file on Mac is Command-down arrow (⌘⬇︎).

Not saying you can't change the function of the Return key, but I don't think you can change the function of the Return key as it is critical to so many functions. Probably wouldn't be wise to do if possible.
