iPhone sounds on both phone and hearing aides when hearing aides are connected

This is a undesired change in behaviour. Setting, accessibility, hearing devices; Play ringtones enabled, play system sounds enabled; audio routing; call audio, media audio Always hearing devices.

These settings worked perfectly; if my hearing aides were connected to the phone audio came to the hearing aides only. If the hearing aides were NOT connected; sound came from the phone speakers.

The change in behaviour is now sound comes from both the phone speakers and the hearing aides when the hearing aides are connected.

The only workaround I've been able to find is to mute the phone and this is an extremely undesirable workaround.

I need to find/fix/resolve the phone sounds automatically routing based on the connection status of the hearing aides.
