Screen resolution issues after Migration Assistant use from El Capitan to Mohave

I have a 2010 MacPro which I recently purchased and used MA to transfer my User volume from a Mac3,1 running OSX10.11.6 El Capitan. A 120GB SSD was running High Sierra when I got the MacPro5,1. I installed my former boot drive from El Capitan into the newer unit and used MA to transfer the files. The private tech firm (which sold me the MacPro5,1) gave me the go ahead to do this. For the most part all the files transferred properly, but I was disappointed with the overall clarity of the screen which seemed to have aliasing in graphics and my photos seemed too grainy.

Doing a search for anti aliasing and Mohave came up with Terminal code insertions which did very little to help the overall resolution.

My Samsung M30C 27" smart tv is plugged uses a Display Port to HDMI adaptor. ie: MacPro out of Sapphire RX580gpu display port to Smart HDMI #1 input.

I have a 6ft DVI to HDMI cable arriving tomorrow. I thought the DVI out of the computer would be the preferred connection, according to other Techs HDMI out of gpu is best...?

Mac Pro, macOS 10.14

The Mac uses a system that reminds me of “Plug and play” to determine what display is connected, and what its capabilities are.

To get a Mac display to become active, you need the Mac to query the display, and the display to answer with its name and capabilities. Otherwise, the display will not be shown as present, and no data will be sent to the display. "No signal detected" is generated by the DISPLAY, not by the Mac.

This query is only sent at certain times:

• at startup

• at wake from sleep — so momentarily sleeping and waking your Mac may work

• at insertion of the Mac-end of the display-cable, provided everything on that cable is ready-to-go

• hold the Option key while you click on the (Detect Display) button that will appear in Displays preferences (from another display)

PUNCHLINE:

NOTHING about screen resolution is carried forward in standard MacOS software in a way that would impact the picture in the way you describe. The Mac re-derives screen capabilities from the display, and only applies your DESIRED settings if there is no conflict.
