No sound is played in iMovie for imported clips which do have sound while playing on other applications such as QuickTime or VLC

I have imported two clips to iMovie. None of them has any sound. While playing the same files on VLC or QuickTime they do have sound.

The Sound Button at the top right side of iMovie is greyed out (not available)

It is possible that the audio is in a format that iMovie does not recognise.

Do you know the specifications of the video and audio of the clips?

If not, download the free app Invisor and post the results here for us to see.

Assuming the audio is unsuitable for iMovie, you could open the clip in QuickTime player and export it. That should make the audio readable by iMovie.

Select File>Export as and choose a suitable size.
