? In texts when photos/images sent

On my new iphone 15 my texted photos/images are appearing as question marks instead of images at my end. This did not happen with the same texted items on my previous phone. I saw some comment about format, incompatibility, but no suggestions as to how this might be changed to correct the problem. As a result, when I look at my text messages, I can’t determine what I sent to anyone! UNACCEPTABLE.

I called and spoke with a supposed senior technician who didn’t have an answer, and was supposed to get back to me, but never did. Quality of Apple Care has fallen, particularly since Covid, but that’s no longer a viable excuse!!

It sounds incredibly frustrating to experience that issue with your new iPhone 15! Seeing question marks instead of images in your text messages can indeed be perplexing. It seems like there might be an issue with the image format or compatibility during the transmission of the images.

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you could try:

  1. Ensure the images you're sending are in a compatible format. JPEG or PNG are generally universally supported. If you're sending specialized formats or extremely large images, they might not display correctly on some devices.
  2. Go to Go to Settings > General > Transfer & Reset > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will reset Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN settings. Note that this will erase saved Wi-Fi passwords, so you'll need to re-enter them.
  3. Ask the sender to check their iMessage settings to ensure that the "Low-Quality Image Mode" or "Low-Quality Video Mode" option is not enabled. These settings can reduce the quality of images and videos to reduce data usage. To check this, ask them to go to Settings > Messages > Low-Quality Image Mode or Low-Quality Video Mode, and make sure they are toggled off.
  4. If you are using cellular data instead of Wi-Fi to download videos, your iPhone may be optimizing the quality to reduce data usage. To address this, you can go to Settings > Cellular (or Mobile Data) > Cellular Data Options > Enable LTE (or Voice & Data) and select "Voice & Data" or "Data Only" to ensure high-quality videos are received when using cellular data.
  5. iMessage has limitations on the maximum file size that can be sent and received. If the videos being sent to you exceed these limitations, iMessage might compress and reduce their quality automatically. This is particularly common with longer or high-resolution videos.Share long videos on your iPhone - Apple Support
    1. There are iMessage limitations on file size for videos. The maximum file size for an iMessage video attachment is 25MB. Here are some additional things to keep in mind about iMessage video file size limitations:
    2. The file size limitation applies to all iMessages, regardless of whether the recipient is using an iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
    3. iMessage will automatically compress videos that are larger than 25MB to meet the file size limitation. However, this may result in a loss of quality.
  6. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary software glitches. Turn off your iPhone, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on.
    1. Restart the device. That's it.

  7. If the issue persists, you can try resetting all settings on your iPhone. This will not erase your data but will reset all personalized settings to their default values. Go to Settings > General > Transfer & Reset > Reset > Reset All Settings and confirm the action. Note that you will need to reconfigure your settings afterward. All settings—including network settings, the keyboard dictionary, the Home screen layout, location settings, privacy settings, and Apple Pay cards—are removed or reset to their defaults. No data or media are deleted.

    2. You can return settings to their defaults without erasing your content.
    3. If you want to save your settings, back up your iPhone before returning them to their defaults. For example, if you’re trying to solve a problem but returning settings to their defaults doesn’t help, you might want to restore your previous settings from a backup.
  8. Make sure you have the latest updates installed.
    1. Update Over-the-Air (OTA) —> Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support (IN)
    2. Update using iTunes/Finder —> Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support (IN)

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it is recommended to reach out to Apple Support or visit an authorized service center for further assistance. They can provide specific guidance based on your device model and iOS version.
