Selling iPhone accidentally left in Europe

I lost my iPhone 14 in an airport in Europe. I have texted with the person who found it. Shipping it to me will be difficult for him and expensive due to shipping charges, duties. I have bought a new phone in US. Can I sell (trade in?) the old one back to Apple in Europe some way?

If you didn’t get your new iPhone using insurance coverage (like AppleCare+ Theft and Loss or a similar carrier offering) you could sell it but you may be limited in doing so yourself since you don’t actually have it. If it’s difficult for the person that found it to ship it to you with you paying for the shipping then it’s not likely any easier for them to ship it to a buyer. Apple in Europe may not accept it for trade in and Apple in the US (or where ever you live or initially purchased the lost one) may not send the trade in box for free shipping to Europe to have it sent to them in the US. You would need to contact them directly to ask though. Unless you’re just willing to let the person that found it keep it you will likely need to pay for the shipping to get it back and then go from there. If it’s in decent condition and is eligible to be sold (again if you used insurance claim to get the new one then it’s not yours to sell anymore and belongs to the insurance provider) then you should pay to ship it back, sell it because what you get would absolutely be more than shipping would cost you and be done. Look at it as a gift. Before someone found it you had nothing and had to spend money on another phone. At least now you can get something out of it.
