Please determine if the same problems occur in "Safe Mode": Use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support
It is normal for a Mac to take a long time to start in Safe Mode — it could take twenty or thirty minutes, if its startup drive needs "repair". Among other tasks, Safe Mode performs a cursory directory integrity check and repairs any inconsistencies it may find.
However, once the Mac starts and you log in, it should not be noticeably slow. If it is, a hardware fault becomes likely. That fault is usually a hard disk drive that is operating in a state of failure. They can be replaced.
