Family where thru T-Mobile

We all just upgraded pies this year through T-Mobile. I have a 13 husband and daughter have 14s. We all just downloaded iOS 17.1 in the last 24-36 hrs

I used to be able to locate my daughter or husband through family where through T-Mobile but now I see I have to ask for their location ??

I don’t check up on my daughter all the time ( she is over 18) but if she’s out late with friends I do like to see where she is( she is aware)

I guess I’m wondering why this new option kind of over rides family where ??
