Facetime on WiFi only?

Hello, does anyone know if you can use Facetime with only the WiFi enabled on the iPhone 4. Reason for this question is that I would like to be able to use this whilst in Europe on a WiFi network there to call home where the family will be on the home network WiFi.
I don't want the iPhone to try to connect by using the 3G wireless network partners with AT&T because I am sure that will really send the AT&T bill sky high.
Anyone know this answer?
Thanks, Peter

You're welcome.

If it operates on wi-fi only, it is impossible for any AT&T international roaming charges. If you start off by calling the person and then switch to a FaceTime call, the portion of the call before the switch to FaceTime will be charged as with any other call when roaming internationally. When selecting FaceTime from the start, no.

You can test this now. Enable Airplane mode followed by turning on wi-fi access. All other iPhone radios will be off except for wi-fi. Do a FaceTime call.

Hello Alan,
the FaceTime Help says that you need either wifi or ethernet connection... my parents are on the Mac( 10.6.4,ethernet, no firewall, etc) and when i try to "call" them via my Iphone 4, they have a message on the top of FaceTime saying "you need to connect to internet"... they are! LOL i precise that we have checked the apple mail to activate FaceTime, that the facetime button is on... SO? any explaination to that bug??
THX
