when I follow a link for example youtube, maps, instagram, etc, it opens the link in safari instead of the app. In safari there’s the an “open in app” link which sends me to app store instead of the actual app. And yes everything is updated. Is there any solution to this? It seems an old issue, of what should be a very basic os function, but apparently without a fix.

That particular app that you have the link to is not downloaded on your device or is not available in the App Store. All apps are not available in all countries.
