IOS 17.1.1 - YOUR IPHONES ARE NOW CONNECTED and shares every call, facetime, & voicemail across 2 phones

I have 2 phones and now all my call history, voice mail, and face time history is available on both phones - NOT ACCEPTABLE. Yet, it doesn't persist across my iPad or Mac Book Air which also share the same Apple ID.

Was told this was expected behavior and to set up a new Apple ID.

I have 2 phones - I have separate phone numbers, voice mails, and email addresses for each device.

I do share pics, contacts, and music.

If I get a new apple ID, I won't be able to share contacts.

Whoever thought that sharing call history across devices is more desirable than sharing contacts doesn't have any critical thinking skills.

"Voice Call History and Voicemail being SIM-dependent:

Each device stores its voice call history and voicemail based on the SIM

card used. Therefore, if you have two devices with different SIM cards,

their call histories and voicemails will not synchronize or be the

same. The SIM card essentially acts as the repository for this data."

Then WHY are my two phones with two different SIM cards suddenly showing the same phone's call history and voicemails?

In fact, it appears that the second phone is no longer showing its own call history and voicemails at all, but mirroring the first phone's instead.

Let's break it down and elaborate further:

  1. Voice Call History and Voicemail being SIM-dependent: Each device stores its voice call history and voicemail based on the SIM card used. Therefore, if you have two devices with different SIM cards, their call histories and voicemails will not synchronize or be the same. The SIM card essentially acts as the repository for this data.
  2. Apple ID dissimilarity affecting FaceTime call history: FaceTime call history is linked to your Apple ID. If you're using different Apple IDs on two devices, their FaceTime call histories won't sync. Each device maintains its own log of FaceTime calls based on the respective Apple ID used.
  3. Separation of sharing features from call-related data: Sharing features like sharing pictures, contacts, and music aren't interlinked with call history, voicemail, or FaceTime records. These sharing functionalities operate independently of the SIM card or Apple ID association. Hence, while you can easily share various media or contact information between devices, call-related data remains specific to each device due to its SIM or Apple ID association.

This separation means that even if you're seamlessly transferring photos, contacts, or songs between devices, the call history, voicemail, and FaceTime records will remain distinct and exclusive to each device based on the SIM card and Apple ID used.

Moreover...

Contacts are not stored directly on your device, read my old post --> contacts - Apple Community (Apple Recommended)

Exactly what I thought, but apparently with IOS 17, Iphones are interconnected AND DO SHARE that voice call history.

To be clear, I have an iPhone 13 w/ a primary SIM of ATT and an e-sim of Mint. I have an iPhone 10 w/ a primary SIM of Verizon and an e-sim of AT&T. There is absolutely no reason for call history to be duplicated and shared across these devices BUT THEY ARE and Apple Support has viewed and verified. They do share the same Apple ID.

When I updated to IOS 17, I placed one phone on top of the other which is the way I carry them around. They both had a pop-up alert that said..."your iPhones are now connected".

This just happened to me too!

I have an iPhone 13mini for my personal use. I also carry an iPhone 12mini with the phone # of a nonprofit I'm an officer in. Happened to set the 12 on top of the 13 yesterday and a weird wave effect went across the screen of the 12 and it said the phones were now connected. This morning, when someone called my personal # both phones rang, and both phones received the voicemail. Is it possible to disconnect these 2 phones?
