Trying to trade-in my 16" 2019 MacBook Pro and trying to reset it, but I keep getting the message "User Account Not Authorised - Not Authorised to use Erase Assistant". I'm on Sonoma 14.0 and am the only user/administrator

Where did you get this device? Was it used or "refurbished" (not by Apple)? It sounds like an MDM lock. Only the MDM administrator can do those operations, and sometimes not even then. Never buy a Mac from anywhere but Apple or major resellers.

No it was brand new from an Apple Store. Not been tampered with in any way!

Thanks, but that just directs me to use the Erase Assistant - which it then tells me I’m not authorised to use!
