Messages App - Random Crashes Reading Different Messages on Mac

On my MacBook Pro under both Ventura and Sonoma, my Messages app crashes randomly when I select certain messages. It happens unexpectedly on new threads, ongoing threads, single person threads and group threads. When I select a message the app crashes.

Note that Messages works fine on my iPhone and iPad. Specifically, the thread(s) that cause Messages to crash on my MBP can be read fine on these other devices.

Here's what I've tried

• Deleting and re-adding the contact(s) in a Message that crashes but the behavior persists.
• Signed out of iCloud (did not save the Contacts locally), logged back into iCloud, Contacts are downloaded. Messages works ok for a while then there are random crashes on different threads.
• Sent multiple reports to Apple when the app crashes
• Called Apple support. Started with first-line support
• Support always insisted I upgrade to the latest rev of the O/S which I always did with no effect on the problem. I even reinstalled the O/S which did nothing.
• Eventually was passed on to a Senior Support Specialist. I worked with Andrew running diagnostic programs and passing him the data from those programs. We did a screen recording of the crashes (more than once). All of this was done at the request of Apple Engineering.
• I missed a call from Andrew and when I returned his call I was passed to a different Senior Support Specialist. She wanted to start all over again since Andrew had failed to properly log the details of what he did in my record. I did not want to spend another few hours rerunning the same tests.
• I sent Andrew a note requesting he pick up with me where we left off. He replied that there was another Specialist working on the issue and I would have to work with her. In effect he ghosted me.

Apple support has been abysmal on this. What can I do now?
