iPhone 15 PM / ios 17.1.1 tap to wake occasionally not working

Hi everybody, I have an iPhone 15 pro max, and occasionally my tap to wake takes a few extra taps for it to register that I am actually trying to wake my iPhone, I called apple support and they said that they have seen problems with this issue with people that have hold duration turned on however my hold duration was off, I even tried to turn it back on and off again and it didn’t fix much, diagnostics seem to pass every time indicating that there is so forth no hardware damages to my device- and system settings show that my software is pretty stable for whatever that’s worth. Have tried all of the basic trouble shooting steps- minus putting my phone in recovery mode- connecting it to my macbook and doing a clean reformat of the software. Super annoying still even though from the sounds it seems like it’s a software issue which I am relieved by. But if you’re currently experiencing this issue please don’t scroll past it, it would make me feel even better if I knew that somebody else was going through this as well.

I understand that you're experiencing an issue with the tap to wake feature on your iPhone 15 Pro Max. It's frustrating when something like this happens, especially when it seems like there's no easy fix.

I've done some research and found that these steps may fix the issue faced by you.

  1. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary software glitches. Turn off your iPhone, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on.
    1. Restart the device. That's it.
    2. Still not solved --> Force restart iPhone - Apple Support
  2. If the issue persists, you can try resetting all settings on your iPhone. This will not erase your data but will reset all personalized settings to their default values. Go to Settings > General > Transfer & Reset > Reset > Reset All Settings and confirm the action. Note that you will need to reconfigure your settings afterward. All settings—including network settings, the keyboard dictionary, the Home screen layout, location settings, privacy settings, and Apple Pay cards—are removed or reset to their defaults. No data or media are deleted.
    1. Reset All Settings: Return iPhone settings to their defaults - Apple Support:- Return iPhone settings to their defaults
    2. You can return settings to their defaults without erasing your content.
    3. If you want to save your settings, back up your iPhone before returning them to their defaults. For example, if you’re trying to solve a problem but returning settings to their defaults doesn’t help, you might want to restore your previous settings from a backup.
  3. Make sure you have the latest updates installed.
    1. Update Over-the-Air (OTA) —> Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support (IN)
    2. Update using iTunes/Finder —> Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support (IN)

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it is recommended to reach out to Apple Support or visit an authorized service center for further assistance. They can provide specific guidance based on your device model and iOS version.

Numerous software updates and it has NOT fixed the issue for me, and numerous times setting up as new, honestly i’m beginning to think that some of the units were just messed up from the get go and not tested very well. Apple support is no help whatsoever and acted like this “isn’t an issue” like my phone screen doesn’t work half of the time what do you mean lol?

I already have done everything except connecting my phone to my mac and and restoring - reformatting the software- getting rid of any possible bugs. Currently am not by my computer right now, and won’t be till later tonight. But from the sounds of it from apple it sounds like it is a software issue that has yet to get fixed. Fingers crossed it’s not a hardware issue.
