When I start my Mac book the finger ID doesn't let me log on; I have to use my password each time

MacBook Air 11″, macOS 10.12

I assume that you're referring to a MacBook other than the 11" MacBook Air mentioned in your tag line.

To the best of my knowledge, the 11" MacBook Airs did not have Touch ID.
