How new? When you first get a new iPhone, depending on how much data you are transferring over to it, it works hard in the background indexing all the millions of bytes of data. And if you are also using it to run it through it's paces at the same time, you will likely see not the greatest battery life for the first few days. Let it do its indexing for a few days, then see how battery life is once done.
Other things which can be battery hogs is the Cellular Radio. If you have it set to 5G permanently, it will work very hard to stay connected to a 5G network. Go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options and make sure you have it set to 5G Auto or if you live where there is NO 5G service to LTE.
