Apple Calendar won't let me start events at midnight (0:00)

I click on a day. It pops up a new event. I change the time to 0:00am and press tab to enter the end date. It changes the time to 8:00.

Ahh, the "day starts at" setting. I'll change that to Midnight. And the day ends at too.

I click on a day. It pops up a new event. I change the start time to 0:00am and press tab to enter the end date. It defaults to 2:30pm. I change the 2 to 1, change the 30 to 0, and TRY to change the pm to am. But I can NOT change the end time PM to AM.

OOH and it's automatically changed the start time to 9:00am.

What gives? How do I make an event that is 1 hour long starting at midnight?

This has nothing to do with "Day starts at" and "Day ends at" settings. Show x hours only determines the size of the hours' box in day and week views, you can still view the 24 hours if you scroll.

What is your regional setting in System Settings? I'm surprised you try to use 00:00 am for midnight, usually alongside AM/PM midnight is 12:00 am. 00:00 is used with the 24-hour format (without AM/PM).
