File Size of Document Scans on Notes App

I updated to iOS 17.1.1 and ever since, the file sizes of the scanned documents I take in the notes app are HUGE. I took two notes, on November 9th and 14th, one was 9 pages and the other was 11 pages. The scanned document file for the 9 pages was 5.4 MB and the one for 11 pages was 8 MB. These are typical of the file sizes of documents scanned on the older iOS’. Then, today, I scanned 10 pages so the file size should have been somewhere between 5.4 and 8 MB. However, the file size was 141.4 MB. This is RIDICULOUSLY LARGE. I have full on MPEGS with audio and video that are 3 minutes long that only take up 12 MB.

I cannot do any of the things I used to do with scanned documents due to the gigantic file size. I need to scan documents and upload them places and share them very regularly in my university and have always used the Notes app without issue in the past. I cannot email them as the files I am “trying to share exceed the attachment limit.” I cannot upload them to the accessibility platform I use to share notes to help people with disabilities because the file is too big. It is so frustrating. There was no need for the file size to increase over 10 times with the new update.

Anyways, does anyone have any setting I can change to minimize the amount of space that scanned documents take up? I hope this gets resolved in the next update.
