Deleting recurring gmail calendar events - the event is gone in gmail, keeps re-appearing in Apple Calendar

I use Google calendar as my main calendar. I have several recurring events that I have deleted from my calendar in google, but they keep popping back up in apple calendar. I have tried signing out of gmail in accounts and signing back in, but the events come back. They're not showing up in google at all.

Please advise :)

There are cloud calendars (iCloud, Outlook, Google, etc.) and On My Mac/On My iPhone/On My iPad calendars. The latter are only on their respective devices, that's probably why you don't see the offending event elsewhere than on your phone.

Can you delete the whole calendar where the event resides, or create a dummy calendar, move the event into it, and delete the calendar?
